My father was Patrick M. Gahagan, Jr., who passed away in February of 1993.
HE COMPLETED 21 COMBAT MISSIONS WITH A TOTAL OF 155.25 COMBAT HOURS AS A PILOT OF A B-17 HEAVY BOMBER. HE FLEW WITH THE 301ST BOMB GROUP HEAVY, 353RD BOMB SQUADRON, 15TH AIR FORCE, BASED IN FOGGIA, ITALY. AIR COMBAT CAMPAIGNS FLOWN: BALKANS, RHINELAND, NORTHERN APENNINES, PO VALLEY AND CENTRAL EUROPE. AWARDED THE AIR MEDAL WITH TEN OAK LEAF CLUSTERS, THE PURPLE HEART ON FEBRUARY 20, 1945, THE PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION WITH ONE CLUSTER AND THE EUROPEAN THEATER MEDAL WITH FIVE BATTLE STARS.
I have his Pilot's Log Book which details his 21 missions (dates/targets). Was wondering if anyone in your Asscociation knew and/or flew with him or could provide further details of the missions, how his individual medals and the Presidential Unit citations were awarded etc.
