My dad was a tailgunner assigned to the 301st Bomb Group, 32nd Bomb Squadron. He flew 36 missions; 37th mission ended in B-17 being shot down (MACR 8623). My dad ended up a POW at Stalag Luft IV around Sept. of 1944. He was on the Death March until being liberated in 1945. My dad, Ben Cabrera, flew out of Foggia, Italy. He is trying to locate any of his crewmates. Apparently, the crew he was with when shot down on the 37th mission wasn't his usual crew. He recalls Pilot Lester Hurley, John Gelber, Stanley Darling, Paul Kerr, Adolph Gordon, Ray Olson, Richard Larkin, Leo Patrick O'hara, Conklin (spelling ?). According to the MACR he was with the Allen crew on his last mission. This seems to tie in with my research of his records.
He was with John Gelber, Albert Franco, Luis Vasquez, among others at the POW camp.
If you have any info on my dad or any of his crewmates he would appreciate the help.
Fortunately, my dad is still with us. His recall of what occurred back in the 1940s isn't as sharp as it once was.
