T/Sgt. Charles William Bennett - 352nd Squadron
Charles Willliam "Bill" Bennett
Technical Sergeant, U.S. Army Air Forces
352nd Bomber Squadron, 301st Bomber Group, Heavy
Air Medal, Purple Heart
In March 1945 Bill Bennett was a gunner on a 'Flying Fortress' on a Bombing mission over Austria. He did not fly with his regular crew as one of the other planes was short a man. Bill's plane was hit by ground fire while over Austria and the plane went down. Bill's crew members on his assigned plane saw five parachutes leave out of the plane Bill was on, and in their letters to Bills parents they gave some hope that Bill might have made it out alive. But it was confirmed latter that Bill had died in the plane crash. Bill was the son of E. Frank & Bessie Bennett of Grove City, Pa.
Bill Bennett died 4 Mar 1945 over Austria and is buried in Plot C, Row 6, Grave #50 in Ardennes American Military Cemetery in Belgium.
He was born in 1920 in Grove City, PA.
